Assessment Notes

The content on this page is fetched from The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species: https://www.iucnredlist.org/species/189959771/217823450

Justification

Cantharellus subfloridulus is a chanterelle mushroom only known from Central African Republic in Dzanga-Sangha Forest Reserve. If it were to be restricted to this one site it could be highly threatened. However, it was collected in Gilbertiodendron dewevrei forest, which can be found across Central Africa; and so the species' range could be very large and it could then be Least Concern. Further research is required with regards to the full distribution of the species, and given the current uncertainty C. subfloridulus is assessed here as Data Deficient.

Geographic range

Cantharellus subfloridulus is a recently described species, currently only known from Dzanga-Sangha Forest Reserve, Central African Republic (Das et al. 2018). It was collected in Gilbertiodendron dewevrei forest, and so it potentially has a very wide range in Central Africa.

Population and Trends

There is no quantitative information regarding population size and trend.

Population Trend: unknown

Habitat and Ecology

The genus Cantharellus consists of species forming ectomycorrhizal associations with trees. This species has been collected from bare soil under Gilbertiodendron dewevrei forest (Das et al. 2018).

Threats

Without a clearer knowledge of the full range of the species it is not possible to assess the potential threats to this species.

Conservation Actions

This species has been collected from Dzanga-Sangha Forest Reserve. Further survey work is required to investigate the ecology and to ascertain the full distribution of the species.
