Assessment Notes

Taxonomic notes

Why suggested for a Global Red List Assessment?

A species with a small known and fragmented population (< 10 local areas; AOO < 200 km2). A suspected decline in habitat quality is historical and ongoing.
Suggested assessment: EN (B2), VU (C1)

Geographic range

Main distribution in Europe with strongholds in SE Sweden.  Honan (2021, thesis) also recorded it from the USA (Colorado). An eDNA-record from Pakistan is erroneous since it does not fully match the type sequence.

Population and Trends

A small population (<200 records on GBIF, several records referring to identical occurrences).
Estimated number of localities: 200
Estimated number of mature individuals: 4000
Current AOO < 200 km2
EOO: 11 000 000 km2

The population is strongly fragmented with < 10 local areas.
Suspected historical and ongoing population decline.

Population Trend: Decreasing

Habitat and Ecology

A saprotrochic, thermophlious species of exposed calcareous sandy habitats, grazed calcareous grassland and among lichens and low herbs in habitats with calcareous rocky outcrops (Europe). A North American record was from gravelly soil near Salix, Picea and Pinus.

Threats

Small and fragmented population
Overgrowth as a result of abandoned grazing in calcareos grassland habitats.
Exploitation of habitats (buildings, road constructions etc).

Conservation Actions

Regular monitoring of known localities to observe potential changes in population and habitat status
Maintain traditional land use, particularly grazing.
