Assessment Notes
Justification
This species is so far known from the Tbilisi National Park, Georgia, and has been found growing under
Fagus orientalis in probably calcareous soil. If it were to be restricted to this one site then it could be threatened and qualify for criterion D. However, it may probably be more widespread within the distribution of calcareous
F. orientalis forests. Given the high levels of uncertainty
C. roseofagetorum is assessed as Data Deficient.
Geographic range
The holotype of this species was collected in Georgia, at the Tbilisi National Park, under
Fagus orientalis on probably calcareous eutric cambisol soil, in 2012 (Olariaga
et al. 2017, and see documentation in GBIF 2020). A further specimen was found in the same locality with scattered
Malus and
Taxus baccata, on probably calcareous ground, at the same time as the holotype was collected. No further records of this species appear to be available.
Population and Trends
There is no quantitative information regarding population size and trend. This only known site for the species is under protection of the Tbilisi National Park.
Population Trend: stable
Habitat and Ecology
The genus
Cantharellus consists of species that form ectomycorrhizal associations with trees. This species has been found in the Tbilisi National Park under
Fagus orientalis and with scattered
Malus and
Taxus baccata, on probably calcareous ground and calcareous eutric cambisol soil (Olariaga
et al. 2017).
Threats
Based on current knowledge the only known site for the species is under protection of the Tbilisi National Park, and so it is unlikely to be significantly threatened there.
Conservation Actions
Surveys are required to describe the ecology and to identify how widespread this species could be.
