A recently described sequestrate species, closey related to Ch. agaricoides.
Very small population, but might have been overlooked in other dry, meditarranean grazed grassland habitats. Current data insufficient for an evaluation of trends and population status. NE
To date recorded from central Spain (provinces Cáceres and Madrid) and Greece (ID verified with sequence data; cfr Loizides et al. 2020). An eDNA-record from Colombia identifed as this species in GBIF does not closely match the type sequence of C. lusitanicum.
Population Trend:
—“in xeric, nitrogen-rich, sylvopastural grasslands, sometimes near Mediterranean oaks (Q. ilex subsp. ballota, Q. suber) but also in treeless environment” (Loizides et al. 2020); “dehesa grassland”; continental Mediterranean habitats
