Recently described species belonging in sect. Geastrum subsect. Arenaria according to Zamora et al. (2015).
A recently described species with verified records from the UK, the Czech Republic and Slovakia. A rapid expansion of its population has been suggested for the UK. In continental Europe there are no signs of spreading and it must be considered a very rare species. The known sites should be regularly monitored to gain a more detailed knowledge of its population status. DD?
Verified occurrences in the UK, the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Two unverified records from Wisconsin (N. America) in herb. MICH. A record based on e-DNA from Madagascar listed in GBIF database has an ITS sequence that does not match the type sequence of G. britannicum. A Finnish record based on DNA sequencing of marine samples is highly ambiguous and the species cannot be verified from Finland.
Recently detected and described species with a small and fragmented population. However, a rapid spreading in the UK was suggested by Spooner et al. (2015). It is currently not possible to decide whether this is a real expansion of its area or if it has previously been overlooked. In continental Europe no expansion has been observed and it must here be considered a very rare species with a fragmented population. A low number of reproducing individuals globally.
Population Trend: Uncertain
On humid soils in temperate broadleaf and mixed forests as well as in anthropogenic sites (churchyards).
