Population Trend: Uncertain
In the only known locality its was found among leaf litter on nutrient-rich soil under an old Fraxinus in the yard of an abandoned small farm. The site is semi-open and the spot where the fruitbodies appeared was a former compost heap. The surrounding woodland consists of a mixture of Betula, Quercus, Fraxinus and Picea on slightly calcareous soil.
The species is subject to an national action plan including yearly monitoring and measures to prevent overgrowth and a thickening of tree-layer. with invading Picea. The locality is located in a nature reserve.
Dedicated search for Geastrum flexuosum in the nearby area as well as in suitable places in south-central Sweden should be encouraged.
Currently redlisted as CR on the D-criterion in Sweden.
