characteristic of the north-western Macaronesian islands of the Azores, western Canary Islands and Madeira. One specimen has recently been found in Sintra (continental Portugal) (Cornejo & Scheidegger, 2010).
Population Trend:
Lobaria macaronesica is an epiphyte on trees or shrubs of laurisilva forests, e.g., Laurus azorica, Persea indica, Pittosporum coriaceum, Vaccinium cylindricum, Myrica faya, Ilex canariensis and Erica arborea amongst others. In Macaronesia, it seems to be almost confined to the subtropical montane cloud forests at 300–1500 m (Cornejo & Scheidegger, 2010)
