Craterellus flavobrunneus is a chanterelle of North America confirmed from only Nova Scotia, Canada. With the paucity of information available for this species it is currently not possible to accurately assess the extinction risk that it faces and so C. flavobrunneus is listed here as Data Deficient.
Chanterelle project
This species is known from the original collection (descibed as a Cantharellus but latterly moved to Craterellus) at Black Hole near to Baxter’s Harbor in Nova Scotia, Canada (see Buyck et al. 2010). There is another possible record from the west side of Priest Lake in Idaho, USA, but the specimen collected was identified as ‘Cantharellus flavobrunneus ?’, suggesting a degree of uncertainty over its identity (see GBIF 2022).
The overall population size and trend are unknown.
Population Trend: Uncertain
The type collection was made from underneath spruce and birch (see Buyck et al. 2010).
Further information is required regarding the overall distribution of the species before an accurate assessment of its threats can be made.
Work is needed to better estimate the full extent of the distribution of Craterellus flavobrunneus, including further investigations into the potential collection from Idaho.
