Geastrum pseudolimbatum has been treated as a variety of G. coronatum by some authors, Morphology and DNA sequence data show that they are not conspecific (Jeppson et al. 2013, Zamora et al. 2014)
A species of dry grazed grassland and sand dunes. Small population (current AOO <500 km2; known from appr 100 localities world wide (300 records on GBIF) in Eurasia and western and southern N. America.
Potential habitat decline when grazing of dry grassland is abandoned. It could be considered for NT (D-criterion) or EN (C1)
Europe and south-central Russia, eastwards to Novosibirsk area in Siberia. Rare and scattered records in western and southern N. America and on the French island Mayotte (Indian Ocean).
Strongholds on the Central Hungarian plain (sand steppe) and SE Sweden (sand steppe and grassland on calcareous soil).
Known from 300 records on GBIF.

Saprotrophic and nitrophilous species of grazed open, dry grassland with a low and sparse vegetation, often among nitrophilous herbs (eg Urtica), Also in light grazed steppe forests. Along the Atlantic coast (France) and on Corsica (France) on sand dunes near sea shore.
