Assessment Notes

Taxonomic notes

Why suggested for a Global Red List Assessment?

A very small population (5 localities known,  AOO 16 km2, in a restricted area EOO1325 km2) makes it vulnerable to stochastic events. It is potentially overlooked in other areas with Mediterranean vegetation, but being a species easy to identify in an easily monitored habitat (mainly urban parks) makes this option less likely. Suggested assessment: VU(D)

Geographic range

Known from less than 10 sites in Central Spain, Underrecorded elsewhere in the Mediterranean area?
A single record from Argentina needs to be verified. It is currently not included in the redlist considerations.

Population and Trends

No data on population status and trends available.

Known localities: appr 5
Estimated number of localities: 50
Estimated number of functinal individuals: 100
Estimated number of mature individuals: 1000

EOO: 1325 km2
AOO: 16 km2

Although with a small population with a very restricted area of distribution, its preferred habitat (urban plantations) indicates that it might have a more or less stable population. Possibly underrecorded in other parts of the Mediterranrean vegetation.

Population Trend: Uncertain

Habitat and Ecology

Saprotrophic species growing in Mediterranean vegetation on “siliceous, calcareous and gypsiferous soils, under both coniferous and broadleaf trees” (Zamora et al. 2015). Mainly found in habitats under anthropogenous influence i.e.in urban plantations and gardens/parks under Cupressus and Olea, rarely under Pinus spp.

Threats

Stochastic events may be detrimental to the small population.

Conservation Actions

Dedicated search missions to establish its current populations status.
