Assessment Notes

Justification

This species, as described in the original type description, is known from the area around Paris, France. Another use of this binomial was used to describe a taxon from Algeria too, which may have led to confusion around this species. Further work is therefore required. Without a clearer idea as to the distribution, habitat requirements, and population of the species there is a high degree of uncertainty as to the status of Cantharellus papyraceus. It is, therefore, assessed as Data Deficient.

Taxonomic notes

There is some taxonomic confusion over this binomial, with the original use of this binomial being for a specimen collected in Paris, France; while the same binomial was latterly used again to describe a taxon collected in Algeria (see Léveillé 1855 and Saccardo 1887).
