Taxonomic notes

This species is known by its crustose, corticolous or muscicolous, smooth to irregularly setose, olive green thallus, white prothallus, rounded to irregular apothecia with pale to dark yellow-orange disc, ascospores 1-septate, 6-10 × 2.5-3 μm. The species is mostly corticolous and is another species in the C. luteum group (Rivas Plata et al., 2006).

This is species is known in seven countries, with 53 records in GBIF database. Also, this species occurs in Tropical area. In Brazil, this species records are related to Atlantic Rainforest and Amazon Rainforest. Due to all the previous information this species might be considered as Vulnerable (VU) until a better understanding.

This is species is known in seven countries. In Brazil, 16 occurrences to this species are known, located in South, Midwest, North and Northeast of Brazil according to GBIF database.

There are 53 records in GBIF database, distributed in Costa Rica (19 records), Brazil (16 records), Papua New Guinea (4 records), and the other occurrences are distributed in small percentages.

Habitat and Ecology

This species is corticolous in understory of Lowland to Lower Montane Rainforest. In Brazil, this species can be found at the Atlantic Rainforest in Northeast, Midwest, and South of Brazil, and at the Amazon Rainforest in North of Brazil.

In Brazil, this species can be founded in Atlantic and Amazon Rainforest that are biomes that still suffer anthropic actions in special wildfire, natural and criminal caused, and area suppression.
