Mushroom, Bracket and PuffballForms a delicate basidiome with associated hyphal strands. It is distinguished by presence of gloeocystidia (Rajchenberg 2002).
The species’ only/restricted host is the conifer Austrocedrus chilensis which is in NT condition according to IUCN Red List. This fungal species is known from a restricted number of specimens in spite of a wide survey and search along the distributional range of the host in Argentina. There is a restricted number of specimens (4) and an apparent habitat restriction (features unknown) suspected to be related to humidity.
Criteria:
D2 E: this criterium applies on the basis of a very restricted population with all specimens found in a single location (valley of river Futaleufú, Chubut province, Argentina, see map provided).
Known from two localities:
Restricted to the river Futaleufú valley, Chubut province, Argentina
Population Trend:
Fallen branches and wood of Austrocedrus chilensis. Apparently requiring special, unknown, habitat conditions possibly related to humidity.
Possible restricted distribution.
Host habitat loss through natural or human-set fires, invasive non-native tree species and/or establishment of plantation trees.
Requirement of ecological needs of the species in order to set its natural distribution.
Survey in Chile along the distributional range of the host. Additional efforts to find it elsewhere in Argentina.
