Assessment Notes

Justification

Very little is known about Cantharellus salmoneus, with the species being known only from a specimen sold in a market in Viet Nam. Without any further information it is not possible to accurately assess its extinction risk and C. salmoneus is assessed as Data Deficient.

Taxonomic notes

It has been proposed that this species should in fact fall in the genus Craterellus (I. Olariaga Ibarguren pers. comm. 2022).

Why suggested for a Global Red List Assessment?

Chanterelle project

Geographic range

The only known record of this species is from a specimen bought at a market in Huế, Viet Nam (Hariot and Patouillard 1914).

Population and Trends

With so little information available for this species it is not possible to accurately estimate the population size and trend.

Population Trend: Uncertain

Habitat and Ecology

Threats

Without further information regarding its distribution it is impossible to accurately identify any threats it may be facing.

Research needed

Surveys are essential to get an idea of where this species occurs in the wild, thus then allowing for an estimation of the population size and trend, as well as identifying its ecological requirements and any threats it may be facing.
