Assessment Notes

Justification

Since the description of Cantharellus kavinae there do not appear to be any subsequent records of the species. There is a lack of occurrence data and information on the habitat and ecology of the species, and it is not possible to assess the status of its population or distribution. It is therefore assessed as Data Deficient.

Taxonomic notes

Cantharellus kavinae was described by Josef Velenovský in 1920 in České Houby as C. cavinae.

The type description highlights C. subcarneus and C. miniatus as closely related or identical to C. kavinae.

GBIF lists taxonomy as doubtful.

Why suggested for a Global Red List Assessment?

Chanterelle species to be assessed as part of the chanterelle comprehensive project, but dropped as a synonym of C. friesii

Geographic range

Type describes C. kavinae as occurring in places near Mnichovice (Plecháč), Kunice, Struhařov, Jevany, Říčany in the modern day Czech Republic. Extent of range unknown.

No occurrence data available on GBIF.

Population and Trends

Only known from type description.

Population Trend: Uncertain

Habitat and Ecology

Type specimen described from warm hollows and with hornbeam trees.
The extent of the habitat is unknown.

Temperate Forest

Threats

No documented threats due to lack of information about habitat extent. However, Global Forest Watch outlines a 12% decrease in forest cover from 2001-2019 in the Czech Republic, primarily as a result of deforestation.
