Chytrid, Zygomycete, Downy Mildew and Slime MouldArcyria leiocarpa is a synonym of Hemitrichia leiocarpa and can be easily confused with Arcyria cinerea which is distinguished by ornamentation capilitium examination.
Hemitrichia leiocarpa is recorded in Brazil only in Atlantic Forest, which has its biodiversity threatened. Also, during a century of collections, only 3 records were found in the last 51 years.
Hemitrichia leiocarpa is known in 27 countries. In Brazil it is known in Pernambuco and Alagoas. There are 10 occurrences on GBIF from Pernambuco, but it is actually represent 10 records of only one sample, which is preserved in BPI herbarium (Bezerra et al., 2009, Cavalcanti, 2010), and 02 records from Alagoas (unpublished).
Brazil has three records of Hemitrichia leiocarpa, one in Pernambuco in 1968 and two in Alagoas in 2019. Hemitrichia leiocarpa is considered a rare species (Martin & Alexopoulos, 1969, Stephenson, 2011).
