Hydnophlebia chrysorhiza is the only species in the genus with spores narrowly ellipsoid to cylindrical and scattered clamps in the aculei hyphae.

This species is a quite common and well represented in temperate regions. However, the few reports in the tropics may indicate this species as rare in these regions.
