Assessment Notes

Taxonomic notes

Described from Australia by Kreisel 1967. Is similar to B. furfuracea but differs in minor characters of the capillitium. Also ressembling B. aestivalis. Well documented holotype collection https://www.gbif.org/occurrence/1135811071. No sequence data available from the holotype nor from more recent records in Australia. Has subsequently been recorded from Spain and South America. A taxonomic review is needed to resolve the taxonomically difficult group around B. aestvalis/furfuracea.

Why suggested for a Global Red List Assessment?

The definition of Bovista cunninghamii is currently ambiguous and awaits a taxonomic revision with a global scope. Dry grassland species. Redlist evaluation is not possible based on current knowledge, thus: NE
