Geographic range
The species is widespread in costal dunes throughout Europe, North America, and Australia. In Europe, it is relatively common in the west of the hemiboreal and temperate zone. Records from Uruguay and Pakistan are considered to be outside of the native range for this species.

Habitat and Ecology
This species occurs in grey dunes, wooded costal dunes and sandy grasslands (Latvia).It is saprobic, on bare or lightly vegetated areas of coastal sand dunes.
Threats
The main threat is the impact of tourism and recreation on dune and costal forest habitats.
