The species may be confused with T. supermodesta, but is distinguished by the smaller pores (6–10 per mm) and basidiospores (4−6 × 1.5−2 μm) (Gomes-Silva et al. 2010).

In Brazil, the species is found in Amazonia, Atlantic Forest, Cerrado and Caatinga.
The species is well distributed in Brazil. However, the Amazon has currently the highest rates of deforestation in the last decades and the Atlantic Forest and Cerrado are already hotspots, and Caatinga is threatened by desertification.
Some records in Brazil are in unprotected areas.
Other areas should be studied in order to assess the distribution of this species.
The species has biotechnological importance (Nyanhongo et al., 2002).
