An arctic-alpine species that will most likely be affected by the ongoing climate change,
Suggested assessment: NT-VU (A3)
Circumpolar arctic-alpine distribution. eDNA records from lowland habitats eg Belarus, Turkey Morocco and Rwanda (mostly eDNA) are ambiguous .
Widely distrubuted in arctic-alpine habitats. <100 records on GBIF database.
EOO: 10 000 000 km2
AOO: 272 km2A decline in population size can be expected due to global warming and its effects on arctic-alpine ecosystems.
Population Trend: Decreasing
Calcareous/basic grassland and heathland in the arctic-alpine vegetation, often in Dryas-heathland. Prefers exposed situations with patches of bare sand or soil and low herbs and lichens (often caused by grazing reindeer).
Global warming,
Decreased/abandoned grazing by reindeer.
Lycoperdon frigidum belongs to a group of arctic-alpine puffballs that are difficult to identify. More collecting with meticulous documentation (photos, ecology etc) and subsequent sequencing will prove necessary to get a clearer picture of the sepceis in this group,
