Assessment Notes

Taxonomic notes

This species was described by Kreisel (1976) from NW Nepal in 1974. It has not been recorded elsewhere. Further studies are needed to ascertain its taxonomic status and phylogenetic position within Disciseda.

Why suggested for a Global Red List Assessment?

Disciseda alpina is only known from its type locality in the Himalayas (NW Nepal). Its current population status is unclear and potentially connected to the status of alpine dry meadows-grasslands at high altitudes. EOO and AOO indicate CR but with regard to the lack of knowledge it could be assessed as DD.

Geographic range

Disciseda alpina is only known from its type locality in Kemi La in the Himalayas (Nepal).

Population and Trends

Only known from its type locality, the status of this species is unclear and potentially connected to the status of alpine dry meadows-grasslands at high altitudes.

Population Trend:

Habitat and Ecology

Disciseda alpina is known from dry alpine grassland with Thylacospermum (Caryophyllaceae) in the climatically dry NW Nepal. Altitude: 5200-5300 m.a.s.l.

Threats

Unknown

Conservation Actions

Type locality should be revisited and a dedicated search in similar habitats is encouraged.

Research needed

A barcoding sequence from the type material is essential to characterize this species more accurately. Further studies are needed to ascertain its taxonomic status and phylogenetic position within Disciseda.
