only proposed
This species was rediscovered in Queensland after a lengthy interval. Given its large size and the strong yellowing reaction of the flesh, it is unlikely to have been overlooked. It was thought that this species might have declined because of changes in farming practice as it was thought to occur in nitrogen grassland treated with animal manures. The taxonomic difficulties only emerged after it had been proposed as a candidate. The preliminary assessors decided that, in the degree of taxonomic uncertainty, this species should not be assessed at present. There also needs to be a decision on whether to accept that this may be Calvatia olba. The Queensland collections need to be sequenced and the species probably then needs and redescribed or possibly renamed.
