Assessment Notes

Taxonomic notes

Orginally described from N. America. Recent studies based on sequence data have identified it as a well defined species. At least in Europe it has traditionally been misidentified as A. hygrometricus (cfr Phosri et al. 2013).

Why suggested for a Global Red List Assessment?

Astraeus pteridis has a wide distribution in the Americas and Europe. It is potentially underrecorded due to misidentications with A. hygrometricus s. str. Until more detailed information on distribution and habitat preferences it cannot currently be evaluated. Preliminary assessment: DD

Geographic range

Astraeus pteridis has a wide distribution range comprizing the Americas and Europe. Potentially overlooked and/or misidentified as A. hygrometricus in a number of European countries.
