Assessment Notes
Justification
Cantharellus simplex appears to be known only from a collection made in the former 'Czechoslovakia'. It was collected between
Polytrichum piliferum (a widespread bryophyte), but it is not known if
C. simplex associates with this species, and the specific habitat type is not noted. Given the large amounts of uncertainty around this species it is assessed as Data Deficient.
Geographic range
Cantharellus simplex was described from a collection made in the former 'Czechoslovakia' (see Petrak 1936-1939). The specimen was collected from between
Polytrichum piliferum, which is a widespread species (see Sabovljevic 2019).
Population and Trends
There is no information regarding population size and trend.
Population Trend: Unknown
Habitat and Ecology
This species was collected from between
Polytrichum piliferum (see Petrak 1936-1939), but it is not known if
Cantharellus simplex was specifically associating with this species. If it was, and it occurred throughout the range of this bryophyte, then it could occur in a range of habitat types (see Sabovljevic 2019). However, the habitat type of the collecting locality is not noted in Petrak (1936-1939).
Threats
Further information regarding the full range of the species is required before an assessment of its specific threats is made.
Conservation Actions
Further research on this species is required. This should attempt to identify whether the species may have an associated with
Polytrichum piliferum, and could be used to potentially give a clearer idea of the full range of the species.
