Assessment Notes

Preliminary assessment unable to access full type description.

Since the description of Cantherellus hrabanovii there do not appear to be any subsequent records of the species. There is limited information available from the species listing and with a lack of occurrence data and information on the habitat and ecology of the species, it is not possible to assess the status of its population or distribution. It is therefore assessed as Data Deficient.

Taxonomic notes

Cantharellus hrabanovii was described as C. hrabanovi by Josef Velenovský in 1926 in Mykologia.

Index Fungorum links to an image of Petrak’s listing 1950 which refers to the 1939 publication Novitates Mycologicae - this may be an erroneous link. The listing of C. hrabanovi that refers to the type description from 1926, is from Petrak’s Lists published 1937.

GBIF lists taxonomy as doubtful.

Why suggested for a Global Red List Assessment?

Chanterelle species to be assessed as part of the chanterelle comprehensive project, but dropped as combined in Clitopilus by Singer

Geographic range

Petrak’s list (1937) refers to the type described from ‘Bohemia’ in the modern day Czech Republic.
The range extent is unknown and no occurrence data is available on GBIF.

Population and Trends

Only known from type description.

Population Trend: Uncertain

Habitat and Ecology

Petrak’s list (1937) records the type specimen was described from grass meadows but the extent of habitat is unknown.

Note that Index Fungorum appears to report the habitat from Petrak’s 1950 listing for C. hrabanovi as ‘leaf mould’. As this listing refers to a type description from 1939’s Novitates Mycologicae, it appears to be an error, possibly related to the similarly named Cantharellus hrabanova - which was described by Velenovský in that publication.

Temperate Grassland

No major threats identified due to lack of information about habitat extent and ecology of species.
