Assessment Notes
Justification
Since the description of
Cantherellus hiemalis there do not appear to be any subsequent records of the species. There is limited information available for the species and with a lack of information on the habitat and ecology of the species, it is not possible to assess the status of its population or distribution. It is therefore assessed as Data Deficient.
Taxonomic notes
It is likely that this is a synonym of
Craterellus tubaeformis (I. Olariaga Ibarguren
in litt. 2022).
Geographic range
The exact range of this species is unknown, having been described from woods in 'Czechoslovakia' (Velenovský 1939).
Population and Trends
It is only known from the type description.
Population Trend: unknown
Habitat and Ecology
Cantharellus hiemalis is found in woods (Petrak 1950).
Threats
There are no documented threats due to lack of information about habitat extent. However, Global Forest Watch outlines a 12% decrease in forest cover from 2001-2019 in Czechia, primarily as a result of deforestation, which might be impacting the species (World Resources Institute 2020).
Conservation Actions
Confirmation is required of taxonomic status, population and distribution data and ecology to better assess the species.
