Preliminary assessment unable to access full type description.
Since the description of Cantherellus hiemalis there do not appear to be any subsequent records of the species. There is limited information available from the species listing and with a lack of information on the habitat and ecology of the species, it is not possible to assess the status of its population or distribution. It is therefore assessed as Data Deficient.
Cantharellus hiemalis was described by Josef Velenovský in 1939 in Novitates Mycologicae and was listed by Petrak in 1950.
GBIF lists taxonomy as doubtful.
Chanterelle species to be assessed as part of the chanterelle comprehensive project.
Range unknown, described from woods in ‘Czechoslovakia’ from type.
No occurrence data available on GBIF.
Only known from type description.
Population Trend: Uncertain
Early listing states C. hiemalis found in woods (Petrak, 1950) but extent of habitat unknown.
No documented threats due to lack of information about habitat extent. However, Global Forest Watch outlines a 12% decrease in forest cover from 2001-2019 in the Czech Republic, primarily as a result of deforestation.
Confirmation of taxonomic status, population and distribution data and ecology required to better assess species.
