Since the description of Cantherellus cavinae there do not appear to be any subsequent records of the species. There is a lack of information on the habitat and ecology of the species, and it is not possible to assess the status of its population or distribution. It is therefore assessed as Data Deficient.
Cantharellus cavinae was described by Josef Velenovský in 1920 in České Houby and was listed by Petrak in 1930.
Type description highlights C. subcarneus Fayod and C. miniatus Fayod likely to be closely related or identical to C. cavinae.
GBIF lists taxonomy as doubtful.
Chanterelle species to be assessed as part of the chanterelle comprehensive project.
Range unknown, described from several locations (Mnichovice (Plecháč), Kunice, Struhařov, Jevany, Říčany) in ‘Bohemia’ in the present-day Czech Republic from the type specimen.
No occurrence data available on GBIF.
Only known from type description, which describes it as ‘rare’, but occurring every year in some locations.
Population Trend: Uncertain
Type specimen described in ‘warm hollows’ and with hornbeams. Petrak’s List describes C. cavinae on the ground in warm Fagus and Quercus forest.
The extent of habitat and forest types is unknown.
No known threats.
Confirmation of taxonomic status, population and distribution data and ecology required to better assess species.
Type described as edible, but no further information available.
