Justification

Cantharellus madagascariensis is only known from its type specimen, collected at Maromadia in northwestern Madagascar. There is no clear information regarding its ecology (apart from that it was collected on sandy soil), and in essence its range, population size and trend are unknown. More research is needed on this species, and in the absence of any clear information on this species it is assessed as Data Deficient.

Geographic range

This species is known only from the type specimen collected in northwestern Madagascar at Maromandia (Patouillard 1924).

There is no clear information regarding population size and trends.

Habitat and Ecology

In essence the ecology of this species is unknown (Buyck et al. 2015), but Patouillard (1924) does say that it was collected from a sandy area.

Threats

Without clearer information regarding the full range of the species it is not possible to accurately infer any threats that this species may be facing specifically. However, if the species does occur throughout northwestern Madagascar, it may be impacted by land conversion for agriculture and logging.
