Widely distributed and frequent species in Europe and North America, present also in Asia and Australia, but less frequent. Occurs on maritime sand dunes but also on inland sand dunes, sandy steppe grassland, and in anthropogenous sites (vine yards, gardens and urban parks).
Although redlisted in some countries (eg Sweden) the global population trend is supposedly stable.
