Although being a rare species occurring in temperate-warm temperate-Mediterranean forests, gradens and grassland habitats its population is potentially stable. Distribution covers mainly Europe and N. America.

Central and eastern USA, south-west and south Europe (Mediterranean Basin). An isolated, single record from Argentina to be confirmed.
