Preliminary assessment unable to access full type description.
Since the description of Cantharellus deliciosus there do not appear to be any subsequent records of the species. With a lack of occurrence data and information on the habitat and ecology of the species, it is not possible to assess the status of its population or distribution.
It is therefore now assessed as Data Deficient.
Described by Francesco Briganti under the basionym Merulius deliciosus in 1878 and subsequently as Cantharellus deliciosus by P.A. Saccardo in 1916. It was listed in Sylloge fungorum omnium hucusque cognitorum in 1925.
Note that C. deliciosus is listed as a synonym of M. deliciosus in GBIF.
Chanterelle species to be assessed as part of the chanterelle comprehensive project, but dropped as most likely a synonym of C. cibarius.
Range unknown, basionym described from ‘Napoletano’ in 1925 listing.
No occurrence data available on GBIF.
Appears to be known only from type description.
Population Trend: Uncertain
Early listing describes C. deliciosus as of the woods, but extent of habitat and forest type unknown.
No known threats.
Confirmation of taxonomic status, population and distribution data and ecology required to better assess species.
Species name and information in 1925 listing suggest that C. deliciosus is known to be edible in Italy.
