Since the description of Cantherellus coriaceus there do not appear to be any subsequent records of the species. There is a lack of occurrence data and information on the habitat and ecology of the species, and it is not possible to assess the status of its population or distribution. It is therefore assessed as Data Deficient.

Taxonomic notes

It does not appear to be a Cantharellus because of its coriaceous consistency and its occurrence on dead branches of Aesculus hippocastanum (Preuss 1851) (I. Olariaga Ibarguren in litt. 2022).

Geographic range

The full range of this species is unknown, but the type was described from Hoyerswerda in 'Prussia' (in modern Germany) (Preuss 1851).
