Assessment Notes

Taxonomic notes

A little known species described from Hong Kong 1856.It is reminescent of B. furfuracea. Kreisel (1967) accepted it as a seprate taxon and emended the previous description. No sequence data is available and the the B. furfuracea complex is in need of a review with a global scope.

Why suggested for a Global Red List Assessment?

The definition of Bovista delicata is currently ambiguous and awaits a taxonomic revision with a global scope. Dry grassland species. Redlist evaluation is not possible based on current knowledge, thus: NE

Geographic range

Wide global distribution in dry and warm areas. According to Kreisel (1967) it might be a subtropical-tropical species. Distribution records are. however, ambiguous due to taxonomical issuues.

Population and Trends

No conclusions on current trends can be drawn. Recent records only from South America.

Population Trend: Uncertain

Habitat and Ecology

Open grassland; in Spain in rich soil under Quercus ilex and Q. pyrenaica.

Research needed

Taxonomic revision of the small Bovista-species, generating of type sequence data and epitypfictaions are needed to understand the species limits, distributions and species diversity.
