There is limited information available on
Cantharellus muscorum. With a lack of occurrence data and information on the habitat and ecology of the species, it is not possible to assess the status of its population or distribution. It is therefore assessed as Data Deficient.
Taxonomic notes
It is most likely not a chanterelle (I. Olariaga Ibarguren
in litt. 2022).
Geographic range
The extent of its range is unknown, it is unclear where
Cantharellus muscorum was described from. Saccardo (1887) lists it only as a European species.

It is only known from the type.

The type was described from trunks of old
Quercus and found in autumn and winter (Fries 1821).
