Species with a world-wide distribution according to current knowledge. Large population (>60000 records on GBIF); abundant species with a stable population. LC


Geographic range

Boreal and hemiboreal-nemoral regions of Western and Central Europe and N. America. It avoids drier and warmer climates. Australia, New Zealand. Records from subtropical and tropical regions are in need of revision and are in several cases based on misidentifications.


Population and Trends

World-wide distribution in various types of woodland with a number of mycorrhiza host trees. Abundant species with a stable trend. > 60000 records on GBIF.

Habitat and Ecology

Ectomycorrhizal species of woddland, parks and gardens. Forms mycorrhiza mainly with various deciduous trees (Betula, Fagus, Alnus, Quercus a o), sometimes also with Pinus spp, mostly on somewhat acidic soil. Mainly temperate regions, lacking in the boreal and arctic-alpine zones.
