Assessment Notes
Justification
There is very little information regarding this species, and the type specimen may be lost. There appears to also be some taxonomic doubts regarding the status of the species. It is not possible to accurately apply the Red List categories and criteria given the extreme sparsity of information.
Cantharellus membranaceus is therefore assessed as Data Deficient.
Taxonomic notes
There is some doubt over the the specific and generic treatment of the species (Singer and Grinling 1967).
Geographic range
This species was described from the "Congo Français" (de Seynes 1897).
Population and Trends
There is no information regarding population size and trend.
Population Trend: Unknown
Habitat and Ecology
The exact habitat requirements of the species are unknown.
Threats
In the absence of information about the species' distribution, it is not currently possible to accurately identify specific threats.
Conservation Actions
It is possible that the type specimen has been lost (see Singer and Grinling 1967), attempts should be made to relocate it, if possible. If it can be relocated then further taxonomic work should be done to reassess its genus placement; and surveys should be attempted to find additional specimens.
