Assessment Notes

The content on this page is fetched from The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species: https://www.iucnredlist.org/species/269705403/269705405

Justification

This species appears to only be known from a single collection in Germany, and there is some taxonomic doubt, such that it could be a synonym of Gomphus clavatus. Given the uncertainties around this concept, it is assessed as Data Deficient.

Taxonomic notes

Giachini and Castellano (2011) apear to treat this as a synonym of Gomphus clavatus. However, no reference is made to Craterellus nucleatus in the list of countries or specimens looked at in Giachini et al. (2012); while Saccardo and Trotter (1912) specifically highlighted the contrasts with C. clavatus (as it was considered then). Therefore, they are treated as separate species here.

Geographic range

This species was collected in Germany (Saccardo and Trotter 1912), although exact collecting locality is not provided in Saccardo and Trotter (1912).

Population and Trends

There is no quantitative information regarding population size and trend.

Population Trend: Unknown

Habitat and Ecology

It was collected from the ground in a dry forest (Saccardo and Trotter 1912).

Threats

Further work regarding the full distribution of the species required before an accurate assessment of the threats it faces can be made.

Conservation Actions

Studies specifically focussing on the taxonomic placement of this concept are required. If it is accepted as a species following this work, then field surveys are needed in order to locate additional specimens and to get a clearer idea of the full distribution of this species.
