N. America (abundant), S. America (only few records), Euroasia (abundant) and Australia. Currently not known from Africa and Central Asia.
Abundant species with a large population and distribution. Although redlisted as NT in Sweden, the trend is presumably stable on a global scale.
Population Trend:
Saprotrophic in deciduous and coniferous woodland with some continuity. Does not occur in forest tree plantations. Abundant species in old growth boreal, hemiboreal and montane zones of Europe.
Habitat destruction caused by clear cutting of continuity forests.
Is considered NT in Sweden where clear cutting that slowly decreasing its extension of occurence.
