Justification

This species was described from northeastern USA, and there are multiple further records of its occurrence in this region and southern Canada. There have been additional records from India and Japan, but even if these latter records refer to a different species there does not appear to an ongoing threat that would impact the species significantly enough for it to approach the thresholds for listing as threatened. Therefore, it is assessed as Least Concern.

Geographic range

This species was described from the Adriondack Mountains of New York, and there are multiple other records from north-eastern USA and southern Canada (GBIF.org 2021). GBIF.org (2021) does also contain multiple records from Japan, and there are published records of the species from the Himalayas in India (Kumari et al. 2009), but it is not known if these definitively refer to exactly the same species.

Population and Trends

There is no quantitative information regarding the population size and trend. It is possible that localised threats could be causing localised declines, but there is also the potential that conifer plantations could be benefitting the species.

Habitat and Ecology

It has been collected from under Pinus (Saccardo 1888), latterly referred to as spruce by Peterson (1976).

Threats

Even if the species were to be restricted to its known range in North America, it is suspected that there would not be any significant threat that would have a major impact on the species as a whole; although it may face some localised, minor threats.

Taxonomic work to ascertain the taxonomic relationship between the records from North America and those from Asia should be conducted.
