Described by Schweinitz from N. Carolina in 1822. Later also reported from Europe which records were revised by Demoulin 1972 and found to differ from the American taxon. He verified the South America A. lazoi from Europe and furthermore described L. lloydianum as a new species restricted to Europe.
Arachion album is a rare but widespread puffball species in North America and recently recorded from Japan. Its population status in N. America is currently unknown but might be of least concern judging from the wide distribution. LC or DD
A widely distributed species in the Americas and recently published also from Japan. Records from a.o. Oman and Malaysia are e-DNA sequences not fully matching the American sequences. Also the Australian records should be reviewed. It seems to be absent in Europe, where it is replaced by A. lloydianum and A. lazoi.

Deciduous woodland, open places and flower beds according to Coker & Couch (1928). Often under cedar.

Records from outside of N. America (from where it was originally described) and Japan should be revisited and documented with DNA sequence data. A global taxonomic review of the genus based on morphological and molecular data is urgent.
