The type specimen of this species was collected in New Ireland, Papua New Guinea, as described in Berkeley 1842, and is currently preserved within the cryptogamy collection (PC) at the Herbarium of the Muséum national d’Histoire Naturelle (MNHN - Paris). Information regarding any present day populations of this species, as well as its habitat preferences and potential threats, is lacking. Until further information is carried out to address these data deficiencies, this species is listed as DD.
