Why suggested for a Global Red List Assessment?
Stropharia halophila is a species with striking, large basidiocarps that is restricted to yellow dunes with Ammophila arenaria along the Atlantic and Mediterranean coasts of Europe. It is rare to very rare and the sites are potentially endangered by expanding development of touristic accomodations, artificial dune fixation and climate change.

Atlantic and Mediterranean coasts of Europe.
Population and Trends
Known from very few, scattered and fragmented localities within the described area. Trends unknown, probably declining.

Habitat and Ecology
In natural, dynamic, yellow dunes near the shore, probably saprotrophic on litter of Ammophila.
Threats
Main threat is artificial fixation of the coast, e.g. by planting of Ammophila or forest. Also recreational developmant and in the longer term rising of the sealevel by global warming.
Conservation Actions
Protection of natural dune systems against human actions.
Research needed
Monitoring of sites for a better understanding of population dynamics and ecological requirements.
