The species was transferred to the genus Tropicoporus. Tropicoporus tropicalis is similar to T. stratificans, however T. tropicalis presents pores 7–9 per mm and tube layers non stratified, and T. stratificans presents pores 5–7 per mm, tube layers stratified (Zhou et al. 2016, Salvador-Montoya et al. 2018).
