Assessment Notes

Justification

Laccaria longipes is found in bogs across the Great Lakes region of the USA and Canada east through northeastern US and Southeastern Canada. It grows among moss, usually Sphagnum, under Picea mariana, Larix laricina, and Alnus rugosa but additional collections and observations from moss associating with other conifers have been reported.  It likely forms ectomycorrhizal associations with the resident conifer trees.  Given its wide distribution range, it is estimated to have a large population size which appears stable and is assessed as Least Concern.

Why suggested for a Global Red List Assessment?

Geographic range

Laccaria longipes is found among moss, usually Sphagnum, under Picea mariana, Larix laricina, and Alnus rugosa but additional collections and observations from moss associating with other conifers have been reported.  Found in bogs across the Great Lakes region of the USA and Canada east through northeastern US and Southeastern Canada (Mueller 1992).

Population and Trends

Searches in mycoportal.org and inaturalist.org (both December 2024) return over 100 records.  Given its wide distribution range it is estimated to have a large population size which appears stable.
