Arctic-alpine circumpolar distribution. Also in central European mountains and the Alps. A number of older records from eastern United States need to be verified as they deviate in habitat. Records (as Calvatia turneri) in SE Asia are ambiguous amd need confirmation.
Appr. 400 records on GBIF - = appr 300 localities (AOO: appr 200 km2)
Estimated number of localities: 1000
Estimated number of mature individuals: 20000
Large distribution area in arctic-alpine environments .Trend supposedly decreasing due to habitat changes.
