Justification
Lactarius rubrilacteus is a very common species with a widespread population, occurring in young to mature Douglas fir forests across western North America. The population appears stable and no decline has been noted. It is listed as Least Concern (LC).Taxonomic notes
It was described by Hesler and Smith (1979) based on a type collection from Oregon, USA. Before that, this species was called by the name Lactarius sanguifluus, a European species.Geographic range
This species is widespread in western North America. It occurs from central California, USA, in both coastal and montane forests, north throughout the Pacific Northwest into southern British Columbia, Canada. It is also found east into the Rocky Mountains, and south into the Sky Islands in Arizona and New Mexico.Population and Trends
Lactarius rubrilacteus is a very common species with a widespread population occurring in young to mature Douglas Fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii) forests. No decline has been observed.
