Justification
Lactarius kauffmanii is a common milk cap, occurring in hemlock and fir forests across western North America. The species is widespread, and no decline has been observed. It is listed as Least Concern (LC).Taxonomic notes
It was described by Hesler and Smith (1979) based on a type collection from Idaho, USA.Geographic range
This species is widespread in western North America from the northern California coast and Cascade Range, through the Pacific Northwest. It also occurs east into the Rocky Mountains, and north into British Columbia, and south-east Alaska on the coast.Population and Trends
Lactarius kauffmanii is a common species with a widespread population, occurring in young to mature hemlock (Tsuga spp.) and fir (Abies spp.) forests. No decline has been observed.
