Cerioporus cavernulosus (Berk.) Zmitr. [= Megasporoporia cavernulosa (Berk.) Ryvarden] is characterized by the medium sized pores, the cream to ochraceous basidioma and the strongly dextrinoid skeletal hyphae (Ryvarden et al. 1982).
The species in known in 12 countries and about 90% of the records are in Brazil.
There are about 375 records of Megasporoporia cavernulosa and its synonyms in GBIF, 80% of them in Brazil.
Population Trend:
Pantropical species (the record in Russia may be a misidentification). In Brazil, it is reported in the Atlantic Forest and Amazonia.
The species is well distributed in Brazil, present in the pluvial forest domain. The Amazon has currently the highest rates of deforestation in the last decades and the Atlantic Forest is a hotspot.
Most records in Brazil are in unprotected areas.
Studies on the distribution of the species are desirable. Also, molecular studies are needed to clarify if the African and American specimens belong to the same species..
