Assessment Notes
Justification
Pseudogyrodon isabellinus is a saprotrophic species known from only two sites, in Ghana (collected in 1967) and Cameroon (collected in 2001). It is not possible to differentiate whether the lack of records is caused by a scarcity of surveying efforts in this region or if the species is uncommon. More updated records are needed to estimate the population size of this species and understand its distribution and trends. Therefore, this species is assessed as Data Deficient (DD).
Taxonomic notes
Pseudogyrodon is a monotypic genus, created due to the distinct microscopic characteristics of
P. isabellinus.
Geographic range
Pseudogyrodon isabellinus has only been recorded from two sites. The species was originally described at a site Ghana in 1967 and has since only been recorded once in Cameroon in 2001 (GBIF.org 2022).
Population and Trends
More updated records are needed to estimate the population size and trend.
Population Trend: Unknown
Habitat and Ecology
Pseudogyrodon isabellinus is a saprotrophic species, originally found in rotten wood. There are no descriptions of its habitat type.
Threats
Deforestation in West Africa and Central Africa (World Resources Institute 2023) could present a threat to
Pseudogyrodon isabellinus, but this is difficult to establish given that
P. isabellinus is a saprotrophic species.
Conservation Actions
Increases in survey efforts are required to clarify its distribution, population size and its ecology.
